Canadian Chamber Statement Regarding the Work Stoppage at the Port of Montreal
The work stoppage at the Port of Montreal has halted port operations as of Sunday night.
With simultaneous disruptions underway at our largest East Coast and West Coast ports, we are effectively advertising to the world that Canada is closed for business. These work stoppages impact the flow of $1.2 billion worth of goods every day.
As Canadian families continue to contend with a high cost of living, the last thing they need is another trade disruption impacting access to the goods they rely on, especially with the busy holiday season upon us.
We need to see leadership from government that puts Canadian workers and businesses first by putting an end to these disputes and getting trade moving again as quickly as possible.
- Pascal Chan, Senior Director, Transportation, Infrastructure & Construction
