Learn how to fix your own bicycle with Summit City Bicycles & Fitness’s Tim Wegner and Park Tool. Tim can teach you how to change a flat tire to more advanced bicycle repair. Learn basic repair skills on your own bicycle, like how to adjust a rear derailleur or how to lube a chain and much more. With small class sizes and hands on instruction, you too can learn how to tune your bicycle.

Intro Class

Time:  Thirty minutes, one session

Dates:  Call Tim to schedule an individual class time that works for you.

Cost:  Free   

Curriculum: This course will teach you about your new bicycle or about your current bike. Topics include: Wheel Installation, cleaning, lubrication, and a pre ride checklist. This course will give you enough information to make your riding more enjoyable and allow you to ride more intelligently by knowing how your bike works.

The students will need to show up 10 minutes early to fill out a registration form and to allow Tim time to inspect your bicycle.  Class size limited to four students. To Register, Click Here.

Flat Tire Clinic

Time:  One hour, one session

Dates:  Call Tim to schedule an individual or group class that works for you.

Cost:  $20.00

Curriculum: Learn how to properly change a flat tire.  Wheel removal, installation and inner tube and tire replacement are taught as well as what you need out on the road or trail to successfully repair a flat tire.

The students will need to show up 10 minutes early to fill out a registration form and to allow Tim time to inspect your bicycle.  Class size limited to four students. Three or more at a reduced price or $15.00 each. To Register, Click Here.

Beginner Class

Time: 6 hours, 3 classes, 2 hours per class

Dates: Tuesdays, December 4, December 11, & December 18, 6p-8p; Tuesdays, January 15, January 22, & January 29, 6p-8p

Cost: $180.00 

Curriculum: This course covers a wide range of topics with less detail. Basic skills are covered (wheel installation, lubrication, cleaning, tool usage, fixing a flat) as well as brakes, derailleur, and basic wheel truing.

The BBB-3 Park Tool Big Blue Books of Bicycle Repair is required for this class.

The first night students will need to show up 20 minutes early to fill out a registration form and to allow Tim time to inspect your bicycle.  Class size limited to three students. To Register, Click Here.

Drive Train Clinic

Time: 4 hours, 2 sessions, 2 hours per class

Dates:  Mondays, December 3, December 10, 6p-8p; Mondays, January 14, January 21, 6p-8p

Cost: $140.00 

Curriculum: This course covers the drive train adjustments and service of the crankset, pedals, chainrings, chain, cassette, shift levers, cables, front and rear derailleur, but does not cover any bearing adjustments.

The BBB-3 Park Tool Big Blue Books of Bicycle Repair is required for this class.

Elite Class

Time: 12 hours, 4 sessions, 3 hours

Dates: Thursdays, January 10, January 17, January 24, January 31, 5:30p-8:30p

Cost:  $360.00  

Curriculum: This course covers a wide range of topics with much depth. The participants will have a wide variety of skills after completing this clinic. Areas covered include: derailleurs, brakes, wheel truing, bearing adjustments, on trail/road repairs, bike cleaning, and lubrication.

The BBB-3 Park Tool Big Blue Books of Bicycle Repair is required for this class.

The first night students will need to show up 20 minutes early to fill out a registration form and to allow Tim time to inspect your bicycle. Class size limited to three students; minimum two attendees. To Register, Click Here.

Rear Shifting Class

Time:  2 hours, one session

Dates:  Thursday, December 13, 6p-8p; Wednesday, January 9, 6p-8p; Wednesday, January 23, 6p-8p

Cost:  $40.00

Curriculum:  This course will cover the rear derailleur and rear shifting.  Limitation screws, compatibility, indexing shifting adjustment, hanger alignment and troubleshooting are covered. Chain wear and cassette wear is discussed as well.  

The BBB-3 Park Tool Big Blue Books of Bicycle Repair is recommended but not required.

Brake Clinic

Time:  2 hours, one session

Dates:  Tuesday, January 8, 6p-8p; Wednesday, January 16, 6p-8p

Cost: $40.00

Curriculum:  This course will cover the specific braking system that is on your bicycle.  Only cables type systems will be taught (no hydraulic).  Brake cable, brake caliper, brake lever and brake pad inspection and adjustment will be covered in this class.  

The BBB-3 Park Tool Big Blue Books of Bicycle Repair is recommended but not required.

Notes

 

  • Tools needed for the classes will be provided.  If you have tools, you are encouraged to bring them and use them.  Tim can also evaluate and inspect what you do have and make recommendations as to what you might need.
  • This is hands-on.  Bring old clothes that you wouldn’t mind getting dirty.
  • Each student will work on their own bicycle so Tim can teach you about the technology and intricacies of your bicycle.
  • The textbook (BBB-3 Park Tool Big Blue Books of Bicycle Repair) can be purchased for a reduced price of $18.75 (25% off). Note taking is encouraged but the textbook covers the skills you will learn and more.
  • Students will need to arrive 20 minutes early for the first class to fill out a registration form and to allow Tim time to inspect your bicycle.
  • Class size is very limited to allow personal instruction and a more hands on experience.  
  • A special discount on tools and any parts needed is also included.
  • Special class times can be arranged.  Please call Tim Wegner to schedule a time that would work for you.
  • Students under the age of 18 must have parental/guardian consent.
  • Children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by an adult
